Just read an article on BBC News, the sudden brightening of Comet Holmes appears to have been an explosion/collision on the comet whether a buildup of gas or being struck by an meteoroid they don't know for sure, it shows a picture of the ejecta after the event. I also didn't know it comes round every 7 years or 6.9 to be exact.
It does appear to have been moving away from the sun with it's closest approach to our star last May. Maybe the collision theory would be better?
Interesting article anyways.

On 21 November 2007 Comet Holmes will appear so bright that everyday people who would usually have no interest in the sky will be astonished.

| Dont know what Palentine is on about but Comet Holmes will appear very bright on 21 Nov once the conjunction occurs. Even if the combined brightness of the star and the comet appear as one which should make it appear as very bright. |

I'm going to end the suspense everyone has had regarding this comet and why it has behaved in the way it has. An action has been exerted upon it and that is obvious. The answer can be summed up in two words: PLANET X.
The location of Planet X in our solar system is EXACTLY where I said it would be earlier this year: between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter (not hanging around the Sun since May 2003 like so many others have been led to believe). It is on its way and will begin its terrible passage by earth in August 2009; but WE shall already begin feeling its cataclysmic effects in May 2008. And I mean truly catastrophic stuff; apocalyptic in the rawest sense of the word: two, perhaps three, supervolcanic or major volcanic eruptions; one major asteroid impact; temperatures soaring to 120 F or higher; and the partial destruction of entire nations by deluge. There shall cease to be a west coast of America and the nation will become divided in half by a huge gulf of water hundreds of miles wide. Meantime the insanity of war will escalate and flourish. And still, this will be but a prelude of what is to come in 2009. Say goodbye to the world as you have all known it: 2008 is "Year One" of a new and horrible age of darkness and torment. The false messiah, the global seductress, and their dark lord are nearly upon you. This comet marks the beginning of this age already, for the new year began in September 2007 as calculated by the Hebrew calendar. A new kingdom has descended upon us like a fog that was once a cloud ... and expect no salvation from any quarter.

| Mike you do realise that the dwarf planet Ceres is located between Mars and Jupiter? Could it be considered as Planet X? It was originally called a planet, then downgraded to large asteroid, but now its classified as a dwarf planet just like Pluto. |

There are considered to be 8 planets and 3 official dwarf planets now, but the possibility of a significant number of dwarf planets in the Oort Cloud remain. Whether they are closer than Pluto and Eris is another question, it also depends on the nature of their orbits.
Many of the larger moons of the solar system are larger than Mercury and Mars, making them planet sized but not planets in their own right, they will always be moons.
I would imagine that nibiru will be a dwarf planet on a highly eliptical trajectory that will bring it in like a comet. |

What is with all these asteroids and comets of late? Seems to be more and more coming close to Earth. I know Conor you pointed out that meteors could be a precurser to PX, but what about these other things?

Effectively depending on Niburus size and gravitational strength, it could theoretically push anything ahead of itself, including Comets!
I notice that we have another dwarf planet now!!! It was announced yesterday, highly eliptical orbit outside of Plutos. That brings us up to four! |

As Conor will probably verify, also about a million years ago the solar system passed through the densist part of its wave like trip round the galaxy and as has been shown several extintion events have coincided with that crossing of the galatic plain.
Its thought that as the solar system travels on its up and down motion round the galaxy as it passed through the thicker part of the galaxy on its way up or down the lumps of rock and other debrie that make up what is theoreticaly known as the Ort Cloud can become disloged and nudged by the gravity of other systems and objects and can get kicked out of our solar system or get pushed in towards the sun on journys that can take milions of years.
The more pronownsed comet activity may be the first signs of that pass a milion years ago. |
