Hi Kat,

This is a difficult one to answer, every religion and every bible has it's own interpretation of what it believe's God actually mean's by this, so I will answer from the Standard Revised Version in english.

First of all God say's Genisis 9-11 "I establish my covenant with you [Noah], that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the water's of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth."

Yes indeed God did make a promise to never again 'DESTROY'the earth by flood. But I feel I must add this.

You asked "Did he make a promise not to punish the earth by flood ever again?"

Well the answer to that question is NO, he made no such promise. His intention was to 'never again cut off all flesh of the earth by flood' this you may think is a small difference in the use of the word's but it is an important one.

This actually point's to the fact God will allow the earth to be flooded but not to the degree it kill's everyone. So global warming (whatever it's true cause) is real and is happening right now. Yes the sea will rise and the weather will change. But we have to trust in God's covenant with Noah.

WHAT GENISIS 9-11 WOULD READ LIKE IN TODAY'S MODERN LANGUAGE

I [God] from this day forth set up an agreement with you [Noah] and all your decendant's after you. That the human race will never again be exterminated by the water's (sea) of a great flood, nor shall the water leave the soil of the earth infertile.

I am not sure where you were leading with this question? But if you are directing toward's the goverment's lying about global warming because God stated he would not flood the earth. Then I would have to say no they are not lying and yes the earth can flood.

But what I always question is the cause the goverment's state.

Thanks Darkcomet, its nice to have your input on this..

Where I was going with this was that if God had promised not to allow a flood ever again then :-

Perhaps The Devil/Satan had created a conspiracy using one of his "religions" (unresrained Freemarket Capitalism) to warm the planet to the point of causing the seas to rise and cause a disaster on a biblical scale by flooding the land.

This would be why major companys and people in power (part of the conspiracy) have been draging their heels in dealing with G-W.
It may also acount for people that are fighting to stop G-W using the rainbow as a symbol of the strugle ( a symbol of gods promise )

If the Devil/Satan were able to flood the world he could then accuse God of being a liar.

But as you seem to say that that was not what god said then my theory in not valid, though the part of your answer that says....

"and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth."

seems to me like a promise to never let the earth flood for any reason, but I am obviously mistaken.

Knowing the human race as you do,
Why would you not believe in conspiracy theories..? :K.T.

Thanks for that halifax. Its always interesting to see insignificant people with a little podium spoot a load of rubbish!!!

The author of this article is not a scientist - he is a euro skeptic who wouldnt know one end of the earths axis from the other. He only worte the article because he wants to attack the EUs climate change policy and carbon budgeting plans.

If he had done his reading he would know that the snowstorms in the northern hemisphere early this winter have been caused by the excess water in the atmosphere that is evaporating from the earths oceans at a more rapid rate - naturally it isnt going to fall as rain in areas which are experiencing freezing temperatures which always occur in winter.

If he had read some more he would have seen the extremely unpredictable ice storms in the US which will become much more common as global warming increases.

I loved the way he called educated internationally renowned scientists climate change zealots when he himself has no scientific qualification whatsoever!

I knew this article would get you excited Conor and I am glad you could dismiss his ideas - when I read it, wasnt sure what the explanation was, but you have put it back into perspective!

Am I that predictable? HA HA!

I understand how people can be skeptical but the one thing we should remember is - Weather is an indication of climate change - but weather change is not climate change!!!
We have to look at the whole world not just one little piece! The cold arctic weather coming down over Europe is a blessing for glaciers in the alps - it will allow some moderate recovery but not enough to stop the melting.

I dont mind people being skeptical just think of the bigger picture and think in decades and centuries not days and months!

Sammy Wilson sounds like he is taking his view from a single person switching off stand by modes on electrically appliances and not many. But does he have a point? Everywhere you turn there is conflicting evidence...so who do you believe?

Trust the scientists not the politicians! Politicans are all about spin and appealing to the public and trying to balance budgets - scientists tell it like it is based upon research and the hard slog!

Strange weather is a result of climate change, but it is not what climate change is about! As I have said a million times before :)

So, do you think we will continue to see a ramping up of natural disasters which continue to break new records? Refering to the idea presented in the movie The Day After Tomorrow where the weather gets bad rapidly and the northern hemisphere freezes over, it seems like weather has gotten progressivly worse over the past few years. As of right now, North Dakota is experiencing record flooding due to extreme snow build up this winter, and thier river has risen up 42 feet. The Northwest mountain region has also gotten excecive snow this winter. There has been wild tornadoes in the Mid-west states, last year there was an unusual occurance of tropical storms on the Pacific west coast, and Dubai in the middle east recieved snow, something they dont even have a word for in their vocabulary. Could this be the sign of things starting to go past the point of no return, or is this just a regular cycle between mini ice ages?

As we discussed previously, one of the signs of climate change is progressively erratic and severe weather.
While I doubt the monstrous scenario depicted in the Day After Tomorrow is on the way, the principles underlying that movie are sound.
We will see more flooding, greater storms, more rainfall in some areas, droughts in others! If any of the ice caps have a major melt, we will see the oceans becoming diluted with freshwater which will disrupt oceanic currents which determine weather conditions, and we will see bizarre weather across the world. Already El Nino and La Nina events are becoming longer and more severe, Atlantic and Pacific storms are increasing in severity and flooding is more widespread. One example I can see which may not seem anything much but its very unusual - Ireland while lying very far north rarely gets snow, a maximum of 5 days a year and even then it may be only one or two inches. This is due to the North Atlantic Drift and the Gulf Stream keeping Ireland very mild. In February this year, both the oceanic system and the air system above it were blocked by a massive stratospheric inversion over the Arctic, this resulted in a mass of cold air sweeping away from the Arctic down over Britain and Ireland. Here in Dublin we had over 2ft in 6 hours and it snowed steadily for two weeks and on and off for the whole month. I will be 30 next year and I have never seen that in my lifetime. My grandmother will be 90 in a few weeks and she said she has never seen it like that here. So if thats not a telling sign of change I do not know what is!
