With all the advances that have been made in the recent decades, one has to ask. Where exactly is technology taking us? Will we all end up as robots hooked to a mainframe with no actual free will? Mike if you are right, and most of us end up sacrificed to a greater God. What will happen to those who are left? Eternal life has always been a goal of the human race. But just how close are we to really achieving this goal?

Doomsday fears spark lawsuit over collider

I think this machine is asking for trouble, they cannot say what effect it will or will not have....but something sets me on edge whenever I read about it or see pictures of it.

The collider is perfectly safe, there are numerous smaller versions spread around the world, this one just happens to be the longest. Everything I have read about it is fascinating. It should help us understand the universe more.

Met Police officers to be 'microchipped' by top brass in Big Brother style tracking scheme.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=558597&in_page_id=1770

Could this be the mark of the beast the bible makes reference to in Revelations (13/16-13/18)??? I have read articles which associate the chipping technology works on bar-code systems and that these systems use a 666 principle.

How long before we are next to be cloned? I find this article very disturbing, dog's to be reserrected from the dead by means of a clone.
Imagine having two President Bushes!!! The world is'nt safe from one...... let alone twin bushes.

A brain that can synthesise language using software (lots of such AI language programmes now available on the Internet) and, by using robotic eyes, can understand the names for human facial expressions and then make them.

The android/robot who will be difficult to distinguish from human beings has arrived already ... not 50 years from now!

The following monologue by the android in the first video was obviously programmed and not "thought out" by it ... but it is a bit frightening. The second video, the speaking is a combination of both synthesised "thinking" by the robot's software and some programmed responces. After hearing the first video, one might ask when they can think for themselves, and to a very limited degree some already can, what WILL they think of us????

Very good video, Darkcomet. I am very impressed with the work being done there.

This is the heart of what real artificial intelligence is all about: marrying together the ability to create software that will understand and recognise words and use them to simulate human language (which is the best all computer AI programmes can do) WITH robotics technology that will allow the artificial intelligence to "see" amd "hear" and learn to apply those words (which inside a computer are merely abstractions at best) to real objects and experiences.

This could already be being done on the computer by using AI word recognition language software programmes with the computer's own ability to scan images and photos of real objects and living things and interpret sounds to play back as music, voices, etc. What this robot did could be done inside the computer environment by making the intelligence see a photo of a person, let us call the person "David," and whenever seeing the photo know it is "David" and not, for example, a photo of a truck ("truck") or the planet Mars ("Planet", "Mars"). To the best of my knowledge, it is NOT being done .. and it should for it would be far less expensive than investing heavily in robotics equipment.

Once properly trained on the computer, the artificial intelligence could then be ready for the "outside world" as a robot interacting with the real things it learns about from photos/images and sound recognition.

However it is done, this experiment proves that artificial intelligences can be taught to learn and to reason. Very exciting!!

PS.. the second video that I posted went with an article about how this intelligence actually learns to read facial expressions others are making and mimic them ... and like this other robot that could distinguish "grandpa" from "minicooper" ... be given words to remember to associate with the expressions ("sad", "happy," "angry" etc). Unfortunately the meaning of this may have been lost to many of you because the video is also intended to "entertain" and the AI's language processor was programmed to repeat exactly what the creator had taught it to say for our amusement rather than have it speak for itself. Sorry, the link to the news article is now lost.
